Leeds City Centre

Leeds City Centre is only 5 miles away from Skelton Lakes. There is a world of entertainment, restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, and green spaces in the city that are all within easy reach.

Temple Newsam Estate

Temple Newsam is one of the great houses of England and for the last 100 years has been owned by the City of Leeds for the enjoyment of all. Located in a remarkable country house setting, Temple Newsam has a deep history. Today, you can enjoy fabulous vistas of the park and lakes at Temple Newsam as well as experience nature trails, picnics, or family fun. There is so much to do, and Temple Newsam is perfect for walking, cycling and horse riding. In the grounds you will find three lakes each with its own individuality as well as a farm with its historic cobbled yards and outbuildings to explore.

Skelton Country Park

Skelton Country Park is a former coal mining pit that is a remnant of opencast coaling operations in the 20th century. Today, this ex industrial area has been regenerated into an attractive green space that is perfect for walkers and cyclists. This nature reserve of water and woodland is more than 60 acres in size and is located just below Temple Newsam to the south of the city centre of Leeds.

Rothwell Country Park

Rothwell Country Park used to be occupied by Rothwell Colliery until its closure in 1983. In June 2000, following a transformation of the area, with the creation of meadows, woodland and wetlands, Rothwell Country Park was opened to the public. This oasis is part of a corridor of green spaces in the Lower Aire Valley in Leeds. It is a peaceful spot away from the hustle and bustle of urban life and Rothwell Country Park offers the perfect space for families wanting to have the time and space to absorb the sounds and sights of nature.
